July 2, 2015MAGIC MIKE XXL (Warner Bros) Synopsis: “Magic Mike XXL” reunites Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias, stars of the 2012 worldwide hit “Magic Mike.” Picking up the story three years after Mike bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, “Magic Mike XXL” finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways. Joining the returning cast, in brand new roles, are Amber Heard (“The Rum Diary”), Donald Glover (“Community”), Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss (“Step Up Revolution”) and Michael Strahan (“Live with Kelly and Michael”), with Andie MacDowell (“Footloose”), Elizabeth Banks (“The Hunger Games” franchise), and Jada Pinkett Smith (“Gotham”). “Magic Mike XXL” is directed by Emmy Award winner Gregory Jacobs (“Behind the Candelabra”), who served as a producer on “Magic Mike,” as well as numerous features in a long-running collaboration with Steven Soderbergh. “Magic Mike XXL” is produced by Nick Wechsler, Gregory Jacobs, Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin, with a screenplay by Carolin. July 1, 2015Author Sonya Jenkins, along with Fashion Consultant Andrea Warner, hosted a Shayla’s Catch Fashionista Book Signing & Fashion Show at Fierce N’ Chic Boutique in Roswell, GA, Saturday, June 27. A “Shayla’s Look & More” Fashion Show was the highlight of the Book Signing, featuring scenes from Shayla’s Catch novel, which included a Game Day Scene, an Island Scene, a Super Bowl Party Scene and several other reenactments from Sonya Jenkins’ romance novel about a young woman’s journey with a high profile NFL ball player. Some of the fashions showcased by the “Shayla’s Look & More” models included a two piece nude and lace shorts set, Mandalay gowns for Black Tie affairs, Robert Cavalli, Versace designs and several other fashionable designer styles and looks for both men and woman. The fashion show and scene reenactments were well received by guests who were also treated to champagne and cheese and crackers and exclusive fashion tips. In preparation for the possibility of turning the pages of Shayla’s Catch novel into a movie script, the Fashionista Book Signing gave movement and action to a novel that is already being dubbed a page-turner that readers can’t put down. June 25, 2015WGN America announced today that Jussie Smollett (“Empire“) has signed on to guest star in the cable network’s pulse-pounding thriller “Underground,” in which bravery, ingenuity and power take center stage as slaves band together in the fight of their lives – for their families, their future…and their freedom. Smollett will play Josey, a wild-eyed runaway who doesn’t trust anyone, not even those stationed along the way who would try to help him. Hailing from Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios, “Underground” is currently in production on a straight-to-series order in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a 2016 premiere on WGN America. “Underground” is the first TV project to which Smollett has been attached since his smash debut on “Empire.” This role also marks the first time in twenty years that Smollett will appear on screen with his younger sister Jurnee Smollett-Bell (“Friday Night Lights,” “True Blood,” “The Great Debaters”). June 19, 2015– The Walk with Jordan Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the showing of 3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets, a documentary about the murder of Jordan Russell Davis. The film will be at the Landmark Theatre’s Midtown Art Cinema, July 3-10. “This film thoroughly covers the details of my son’s death and the process through which justice was achieved,” said Lucia K. McBath, Davis’ mother and founder of the Walk with Jordan Scholarship Foundation. “In addition to informing people, we hope that it will inspire them to take action in their communities and work to influence the lives of others. That is what our foundation stands for, and it is why we are happy that the film is making a stop here in Atlanta, where we are headquartered.” Directed by Marc Silver, the documentary examines the death of Davis, a 17-year-old, who was gunned down at a gas station in Jacksonville, Fla., in November 2012. Michael David Dunn, has been sentenced to life in prison, after being found guilty of first-degree murder in Jordan’s death. Dunn also was convicted of three counts of attempted second-degree murder for firing at three other teenagers who were with Jordan. The incident started when Dunn asked the teens to turn down the music in their vehicle. A verbal confrontation ensued, and Dunn, claiming he thought the young men had a gun, began shooting into the vehicle, striking Jordan. Silver, who previously directed the acclaimed documentary Who is Dayani Cristal?, also served as the writer for 3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets. The picture includes footage from the scene, interviews with witnesses, an examination of the investigation, and commentary from Jordan’s parents, McBath and Ron Davis. June 4, 20153-Time MVP Teaches Skills On and Off the Court Earvin “Magic” Johnson, NBA Hall of Famer and successful entrepreneur, made a special appearance at The Sky Is The Limit Basketball Camp in Cobb County on June 3. Johnson worked with more than 300 youth on skills for both on and off the court. The camp, created in 2001 by former professional basketball player Horace Burton, is located at Osborne High School (Randy Dye Sports Center), 2451 Favor Road in Marietta. “Basketball is an incredible tool to teach young people valuable life lessons,” said Johnson. “The same discipline and focus that I used in my professional basketball career, I apply in business today. I am excited to work with Coach Burton and inspire the minds of our future leaders.” The Sky Is The Limit Basketball Camp works to build the character, mind and body of participants ages six to 17 through the love of basketball. Youth learn the fundamentals of basketball as well as advanced skills to help them become competitive athletes. The Sky Is The Limit Basketball Camp is comprised of highly-skilled coaches, many of which are collegiate or professional athletes. “This isn’t your typical summer camp. We conduct intense practices and drills to teach mental toughness, work ethic and determination. The combination of all these traits help our campers be competitive at a very high level. Being able to share my personal knowledge and experience with youth and watch them develop their skills, has made it all worthwhile,” said Coach Burton who played professionally in Peru, New Zealand, France, and briefly with the Golden State Warriors of the NBA. Season Recaps The Soul Man “Mo’ Momma, Mo’ Problems” Boyce tries to stay out of the way when Lolli’s passive aggressive mother (Anna Maria Horsford) comes to visit, but he ends up right in the middle of the family drama. Meanwhile, Stamps lays it on thick to impress Kim and make her wish she never broke up with him. “Who Let the Dog In?” When Nikki brings a dog into the office without permission, Boyce feels she is undermining his authority as the boss. Meanwhile, Barton’s regular barbershop goes out of business so he and his cronies make Lolli’s salon their new hangout. “Wife of A Preacherman” In Boyce and Barton’s absence, an inexperienced Lolli must deliver a last-minute sermon. The congregation responds positively and much to Boyce’s surprise, Lolli gets the preaching bug. Meanwhile, Stamps wants to date a single mom, but he has to meet her son first. “Tell It Like It Isn’t” Boyce’s sermons about his fair-weather friend “Gooch” are popular with everybody but Gooch, who shows up unhappy about his dirty laundry being aired. Meanwhile, Barton doesn’t take the threats lightly and calls the cops, but Boyce has his own secrets and would prefer to leave the authorities out it. “Voice Over” When Lolli persuades Boyce to sell his “Boyce The Voice” memorabilia on eBay, it makes him nostalgic for his singing career. Meanwhile Barton volunteers at the homeless shelter and Stamps becomes an ordained minister online to avoid paying taxes.
