dotsTHE SKIN YOU’RE IN – MOISTURIZE YOUR WAY TO SUPPLE SKIN

Beauty may indeed be only “skin deep,” but when it comes to skin sense, it’s essential that we protect our skin.

Some skin care experts point out that moisturizing is an important part of every skin care regimen, no matter what your skin type may be. Dr. Gloria Campbell-D’Hue, founder of the Atlanta Center of Dermatology and Medispa in Atlanta advises us to moisturize the skin often. “You should always put a moisturizer on, even if you have oily skin,” notes D’Hue. “If you have oily skin, you can choose a moisturizer that doesn’t have heavy oils in it.” Dr. D’Hue also recommends using a sun screen all year round to help prevent skin damage which may be caused by overexposure to the sun’s rays. Remember, the skin is delicate and should therefore be protected with a sunscreen formula of level 15 or higher sun protection factor (SPF).

For smooth, soft, and glowing skin, wash your face twice a day. I personally recommend Mary Kay products because they are made for different skin types and work well for me. Washing makeup off before going to bed is essential to keeping your skin healthy. It also keeps your pores unclogged. “You should use a mask or use microdermabrasion at least twice a week and moisturize morning and night to keep you skin in top shape,” said Mary Kay Senior Sales Director Martica Jenkins.

Remember that drinking lots of water benefits all bodily functions and is essential to staying healthy and having beautiful skin. Drink at least eight glasses a day.

Putting into practice a sensible and effective skincare regimen rewards you with a beautiful, healthier looking complexion all year round. Remember, give your skin the royal treatment.

How to Keep Your Skin Looking Younger and More Supple

By eHow Contributor

As we age, our skin becomes drier and loses its elasticity, which results in droopiness and wrinkles. While we can’t completely halt the process of aging, we can slow its progress. Without spending a fortune on creams and dermatologist sessions, we can keep our skin looking younger and more supple just by making simple, healthy changes to our daily routine. If you are in your 30s, 40s, or 50s, follow these steps to get more youthful skin.

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

    • 1

Start your day with breakfast and something to drink, preferable something hydrating. Eating and drinking in the morning will improve your circulation and skin tone. Drinking some water, tea, weak coffee, or juice in the morning will help plump up your skin.

    • 2

For snacks and meals, eat fruits and vegetables with their skins, if the skins are edible. Fruit and vegetable skins contain pectin and minerals that help your cells repair themselves. The flesh also has vitamins, such as Vitamin E, which promote a healthy epidermis.

    • 3

Drink more tea, especially black tea and green tea, which contain tannins. Tannins improve the elasticity of your skin.

    • 4

Keep hydrated during the day by drinking plain water, tea, or juice. Just be careful about drinking too much juice, as it has high sugar levels.

    • 5

Wear sunscreen anytime you will be in direct sunlight for more than an hour, even during the winter. Sunburns will hasten the onset of wrinkles, and a history of severe sunburns can increase your risk of skin cancer.

    • 6

Once a week, exfoliate your skin gently with a washcloth or gentle loofah pad. Moderate exfoliation is good for the skin, because it removes dirt, grime, and soap scum better than superficial washing. But be careful not to over exfoliate, because you can rub your skin raw and damage it.

    • 7

Use mild soaps and lotions to clean and moisturize your skin. Fragrances and dyes can cause allergic reactions that make your skin look blotchy and red. If you use a toner or astringent, only use those products once every few days, and apply them at night so that your skin is not irritated during the day.

    • 8

Use an oil or petroleum based moisturizer if you live in an arid climate, and use a light, water based lotion if you live in a humid climate. This will maintain the balance of water in your skin.
