2026 MTV VMAs Arrivals: Music’s Biggest Celebrities Bring the Fashion Hits on the Red Carpet
Celebrities delivered all the drama for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
Stars including Taylor Swift, Chloe Bailey, Lisa Rinna and more proved to be on their A-game with their fabulous ensembles at the awards show, which took place on Sunday, September 27, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. This year, Madonna, led the list with 13 nominations.
Swift, 36, is also up for 11 awards including Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” and Artist of the Year. With her career total of 30 Moon Persons, Swift only needs one more to become the most awarded artist in the show’s history. She’s also receiving the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, which recognizes groundbreaking artists whose work being the camera as a director has pushed creative boundaries.

MTV VMAs 2026 bring a legend’s stunning return after decades
Snoop Dogg takes the mic for a night packed with first-time nominees, long-awaited debuts and two historic honors.
Snoop Dogg, 54, steps into the host role with deep roots in VMAs history. The rapper is a 13-time nominee and three-time winner, first taking home best rap video in 1994, then best dance video in 2006 and best art direction in 2015.
His legacy on that stage extends well beyond trophies. He famously closed the 1999 show alongside Dr. Dre and Eminem, delivered a tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. in 2005 and later reunited with Eminem for a first-of-its-kind performance inspired by the Otherside metaverse.
Reflecting on the gig, Snoop credited MTV with giving hip-hop a platform to be bold and unapologetic in front of a global audience. He described coming back to host after all these years as bringing his career full circle.
Madonna Leads the VMAs Nomination Race
Madonna, 68, enters the night as the most-nominated artist with 11 nods. Swift, 36, sits close behind with nine, while Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter each earned seven.
Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson landed five nominations apiece. Lisa scored four, and Shakira and Tate McRae each collected three.
The video of the year race is a heavyweight showdown featuring Madonna, Swift, Grande, 33, Carpenter, 27, Mars, 40, and GENER8ION. That last name is part of a promising wave of first-time nominees, joined by Yung Lean, CORTIS, Stella Lefty, Don Toliver, Kali Uchis, Noah Kahan, Olivia Dean, Sienna Spiro and Tucker Wetmore.
A Long-Awaited Return and a Wave of Debuts
Madonna won’t just be competing. She opens the ceremony with her first live VMAs performance in 23 years, a return poised to set the tone for the entire evening.
Lisa, 29, will give SaWaDiKa its live TV debut. The new single comes from her upcoming EP PRESS PLAY, due Friday, Oct. 23.
RAYE, 28, and Sienna Spiro will both make their VMAs performance debuts. So will Shaboozey, 31, who plans to perform Cowgirl before teaming with Gunna, 33, for the first broadcast performance of High Noon.
GENER8ION and Yung Lean, 33, will also step onto the VMAs stage for the first time, unveiling the world premiere of their collaboration STORM II.
Presenters From Every Corner of Pop Culture
The presenter lineup reads like a pop culture sampler platter. From television, Survivor host Jeff Probst, Dancing with the Stars contestant Ciara Miller and Off Campus stars Belmont Cameli and Ella Bright will hand out awards.
Hollywood also sends Superman star David Corenswet, Scream 7 actress Isabel May and Loves Company star Rachel Dratch. Musicians Alex Warren, Charli xcx, Teyana Taylor, Tyla and Troye Sivan round out the roster.
Swift and Nirvana Headline the Night’s Honors
Swift will make history as the first recipient of the Artist Director Honors, a new award celebrating musicians whose behind-the-camera vision has expanded what music videos can be and pushed visual storytelling forward.
Nirvana will receive the Video Vanguard Award, recognizing the band’s lasting influence on music, culture and MTV itself. The grunge legends join a distinguished recent roster of honorees: Mariah Carey in 2025, Katy Perry in 2024, Shakira in 2023 and Nicki Minaj in 2022.
Between a legend’s return, a flood of fresh faces and a host woven into the show’s history, the 2026 VMAs look ready to deliver the kind of moments fans replay for weeks.
