Brady rallies Patriots to 28-24 Super Bowl win over Seahawks

Posted on by Sonya's Spotlight

BARRY WILNER Feb 1st 2015 10:51PM   GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Tom Brady and the Patriots made this Super Bowl all about football, not footballs. Clutch football, spiced by a sensational fourth-quarter rally and a goal-line, game-saving interception. The record-setting Brady threw for four touchdowns, including a 3-yarder to Julian Edelman with 2:02 remaining Sunday night as New England rallied from a 10-point deficit to win its fourth Super Bowl in the Brady-Bill Belichick era, 28-24 over Seattle. But the Patriots (15-4) had to survive a last-ditch drive by the Seahawks (14-5), who got to the 1, helped by a spectacular juggling catch by Jermaine Kearse. Then Rookie Malcolm Butler stepped in front of Ricardo Lockette to pick off Russell Wilson’s off-target pass and complete one of the wildest Super Bowl finishes. Brady leaped for joy on the Patriots sideline after Butler’s interception. “It wasn’t the way we drew it up,” said Brady, who won his third Super Bowl MVP award. Brady surpassed Joe Montana’s mark of 11 Super Bowl touchdown passes with a 5-yarder to Danny Amendola to bring the Patriots within three points. Seattle, seeking to become the first repeat NFL champion since New England a decade ago, was outplayed for the first half, yet tied at 14. The Seahawks scored the only 10 points of the third period, but the NFL-leading defense couldn’t slow the brilliant Brady when it counted most. It didn’t matter how much air was in the balls, game Brady was unstoppable when the pressure was strongest. While pushing aside the controversy over air pressure in the footballs stemming from the AFC title game, the Patriots toyed with Seattle in the final 12 minutes. Seattle didn’t quit – it never does – and Kearse’s 33-yard catch with 1:06 remaining got it to the 5. …

Russell Wilson Headed Back To Super Bowl After Impressive Win Over Packers

Posted on by Sonya's Spotlight

Rory’s Round-Up: Russell Wilson By Rory Sharrock Throughout the 28-day period in February (29 during a leap year), newsreels, television series and online posts are flooded-stories celebrating the achievements of African Americans during Black History Month. Adding his name as the newest member on the list of legends honored in February is Russell Wilson, Super Bowl champion quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. In just his third season in the NFL, Wilson, 26, has climbed to the summit of pro football. The Richmond, Va. native, who was a third-round pick (No. 75 overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft, became the second African-American starting quarterback to win the Super Bowl. Washington Redskins’ signal caller Doug Williams was the first to claim this feat after his Most Valuable Player performance in Super Bowl XXII. Ironically, both Williams and Wilson earned their championship glory following blowout wins over the Broncos. Wilson’s name is now forever linked with a host of heroes who are revered for their greatness during Black History Month. This proud moment is just one chapter in a potentially classic book. He is one of the league’s rising stars and he’s still in the infancy of his football career. He already has a Super Bowl ring and is blessed with the talent, desire and supporting cast to continue to elevate his status. Kudos to Russell Wilson. He was previously second guessed for his height (5’11”), draft status and arm strength. While the naysayers spewed such comments and then some his way, he continued to keep pushing forward, culminating with a Super Bowl crown last year and rewriting the storied pages of Black History Month. Now, the only second guessing that will be linked to his name is how many Super Bowl rings will he have when it’s all said and done.
