THE SKIN YOU’RE IN – MOISTURIZE YOUR WAY TO SUPPLE SKIN

Posted on by Sonya's Spotlight

By Kristin Jenkins Beauty may indeed be only “skin deep,” but when it comes to skin sense, it’s essential that we protect our skin. Some skin care experts point out that moisturizing is an important part of every skin care regimen, no matter what your skin type may be. Dr. Gloria Campbell-D’Hue, founder of the Atlanta Center of Dermatology and Medispa in Atlanta advises us to moisturize the skin often. “You should always put a moisturizer on, even if you have oily skin,” notes D’Hue. “If you have oily skin, you can choose a moisturizer that doesn’t have heavy oils in it.” Dr. D’Hue also recommends using a sun screen all year round to help prevent skin damage which may be caused by overexposure to the sun’s rays. Remember, the skin is delicate and should therefore be protected with a sunscreen formula of level 15 or higher sun protection factor (SPF). For smooth, soft, and glowing skin, wash your face twice a day. I personally recommend Mary Kay products because they are made for different skin types and work well for me. Washing makeup off before going to bed is essential to keeping your skin healthy. It also keeps your pores unclogged. “You should use a mask or use microdermabrasion at least twice a week and moisturize morning and night to keep you skin in top shape,” said Mary Kay Senior Sales Director Martica Jenkins. Remember that drinking lots of water benefits all bodily functions and is essential to staying healthy and having beautiful skin. Drink at least eight glasses a day. Putting into practice a sensible and effective skincare regimen rewards you with a beautiful, healthier looking complexion all year round. Remember, give your skin the royal treatment. ___________________________________________________________________________________   How to Keep Your Skin Looking Younger and More …

Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Inks Multi-Year Deal With Tyler Perry

Posted on by Sonya's Spotlight

Oprah Winfrey is partnering with multihyphenate Tyler Perry. The Oprah Winfrey Network said Monday that it has inked an exclusive multiyear deal with Perry for new television series and projects. The pact brings two scripted series to OWN, the first for the network, to launch in mid-2013. Perry will executive produce, write and direct both shows. The news comes as OWN closed the third quarter with double-digit ratings gains year-over-year in the women 25-54 demographic and posted triple-digit increases for the month of September. “I have been looking forward to the day when we would be in the position to enter the world of scripted television. That day has come,” said Winfrey, CEO of OWN. “We are all energized by the opportunity to collaborate with Tyler, who has a proven track record for producing highly successful cable series. He has an incredible ability to illuminate life stories and characters in his unique voice and inspires and encourages people all over the world.” Said Perry: “It’s a dream realized to partner with Oprah and bring scripted programming to OWN. She has accomplished so much with the network, and I’m excited to work with her to be a part of its continued growth.” For Perry, the move to OWN is a big one as his previous television projects were at Turner’s TBS, where the network launched the comedies Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Meet the Browns and For Better or Worse. The deal also is an effort by OWN to actively target the African-American viewing audience. OWN, which debuted Jan. 1, 2011, is a joint venture between Harpo and Discovery Communications. It is available in roughly 85 million homes. 9:20 AM PDT 10/1/2012 by Philiana Ng Source http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oprah-winfrey-own-tyler-perry-375328

Lil Wayne Breaks Elvis’ Billboard Hot 100 Record

Posted on by Sonya's Spotlight

The rapper notches his 109th single on the chart with a feature on Game’s new hit, “Celebration.” The King has been overthrown. Big news for Lil Wayne fans: Weezy F. Baby has officially surpassed Elvis Presley with the most hit singles on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The milestone comes via Game’s appropriately titled release, “Celebration,”on which Wayne features. The track marks Weezy’s 109th entry on the chart, beating the 108 posted by the late Presley between 1958 and 2003. And though the Glee cast has recorded a whopping 204 entries on the Hot 100 since 2009, Tunechi holds the artist title – due in large part to his many, many collaborations with other artists. Of his 109 hit singles, only 42 (39 percent) of them are solo records. The remaining 67 (61 percent) are other artists’ songs – including Jay Sean, Destiny’s Child, Birdman and his Cash Money family, among others. Wayne made his Hot 100 debut on July 10, 1999, but first hit No. 1 with 2008’s “Lollipop.” (His only other top ranking single is 2009’s “Down,” on which he assisted Sean.) It’s worth noting that Presley is billed as the lead artist on all 108 of his hits, dating back only to the 1958 launch of the chart. “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Don’t Be Cruel” and “Hound Dog” all pre-date the Billboard Hot 100. His closest competition in the lead artist category? James Brown (91), Aretha Franklin (73) and Ray Charles (72). Vanessa Williams on Success

Posted on by Sonya's Spotlight

“Success usually amplifies who you are already. If you are a difficult child or have an attitude all the time, then when you become renowned you are more prone to have an attitude. If you’re down-to-earth, fame and money really won’t make a difference.” “My parents told me that as African-Americans you have to do better than others just to be considered equal. My mother told me that years ago, and I don’t know if times will ever change where everyone will be considered equal or be accepted on an equal basis. As a society and as a people in this society, we unfortunately have to be superstars or truly excel in a particular field in order to be considered worthy or equal.” Vanessa Williams – Actress, Singer                      https://twitter.com/VWOfficial

Michelle Obama – Sonya’s Spotlight Web Mag’s FAVORITE CELEBRITY MOM

Posted on by Sonya's Spotlight

“No matter who you are or how you started out, if you work hard you can build a decent life for yourself and an even better life for your kids—that is the American dream.”—Michelle Obama.                 http://www.facebook.com/michelleobama#!/michelleobama                             First Lady Michelle Obama When people ask First Lady Michelle Obama to describe herself, she doesn’t hesitate to say that first and foremost, she is Malia and Sasha’s mom. But before she was a mother — or a wife, lawyer or public servant — she was Fraser and Marian Robinson’s daughter. The Robinsons lived in a brick bungalow on the South Side of Chicago. Fraser was a pump operator for the Chicago Water Department, and despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at a young age, he hardly ever missed a day of work. Marian stayed home to raise Michelle and her older brother Craig, skillfully managing a busy household filled with love, laughter, and important life lessons. A product of Chicago public schools, Mrs. Obama studied sociology and African-American studies at Princeton University. After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1988, she joined the Chicago law firm Sidley & Austin, where she later met the man who would become the love of her life. After a few years, Mrs. Obama decided her true calling was working with people to serve their communities and their neighbors. She served as assistant commissioner of planning and development in Chicago’s City Hall before becoming the founding executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies, an AmeriCorps program that prepares youth for public service.
