March 26, 2014TV LAND’S “THE SOUL MAN” ADDS SUPERSTARS FROM COMEDY AND MUSIC TO LIVE EPISODE AS MARTIN LAWRENCE AND B.o.B GUEST STAR ON LIVE SEASON PREMIERE AIRING WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26th AT 10:30PM ET/PT Comedic legend Martin Lawrence and hip-hop artist B.o.B will round out “The Soul Man” guest cast for the LIVE season premiere on Wednesday, March 26th at 10:30pm ET/PT, it was announced today by TV Land. Previously announced guest stars include singer/actress Brandy Norwood (“Moesha”) and Betty White, who will cross over to “The Soul Man” following the live episode of “Hot in Cleveland.” The LIVE season three premiere will simulcast on TV Land, BET and CENTRIC. Martin Lawrence (“Martin”) will appear in the LIVE episode as Rudy, Boyce’s (Cedric “The Entertainer”) scatterbrained drummer pal who helps to bring Boyce’s band back together. At the end of the night, GRAMMY-nominated artist B.o.B (“Airplanes,” “Nothin’ on You”) hits the stage live to close out the show with a performance that will include “The Soul Man” himself, Cedric “The Entertainer.” In the LIVE season premiere episode, Brandy Norwood will play Rita, one of Boyce’s old back-up dancers who’s hiding an obvious secret; Betty White appears as Elka Ostrovsky, her “Hot in Cleveland” character whom Boyce counted as a former parishioner; and Kellee Stewart, returns as Lolli’s (Niecy Nash) sister, Kim, who takes her relationship with Stamps (Wesley Jonathan) to the next level. “The Soul Man” stars Cedric “The Entertainer” and Niecy Nash and follows R&B superstar-turned-minister Reverend Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine (Cedric) after he relocated from Las Vegas to St. Louis with his wife Lolli. John Ridley won best adapted screenplay. Overall, Gravity won the most Oscars with a total of seven, dominating the crafts categories. Dallas Buyers Club took home three awards, including wins for best actor Matthew McConaughey and supporting actor Jared Leto. Blue Jasmine’s Cate Blanchett was named best actress, while Alfonso Cuaron won best director for Gravity. Ellen DeGeneres hosted the show, which aired live on ABC. The ceremony included a “movie heroes” theme, honoring big-screen real-life heroes, superheroes, popular heroes and animated heroes, both past and present, as well as the filmmakers who have brought them to life in theaters. March 3, 2014The critically-hailed film took home the top honor Sunday, capping off an awards-filled season. 12 Years a Slave took home the top prize at the 86th Academy Awards — capping off a momentous awards season. Directed by Steve McQueen, 12 Years a Slave also took home statuettes for best supporting actress (Lupita Nyong’o) and best adapted screenplay (John Ridley). “It’s been an absolute privilege to work on Solomon [Northup]’s story,” producer Brad Pitt said when he took the stage to accept the award, praising the “indomitable” McQueen, who was a bumbling ball of nerves when he approached the microphone. McQueen took the moment to thank Pitt, who he said without his support “the film would never have been made.”McQueen endearingly stumbled through his speech, aided by his paper, requesting an additional minute to thank his long list of supporters — including his mother and children. “Everyone deserves not just to survive but to live. This is the most important legacy of Solomon Northup,” McQueen ended his speech with. “I dedicate this to everyone who have endured slavery” and to those who continue to endure slavery. Just 24 hours before, the Fox Searchlight film was a big winner at the Indie Spirit Awards, recognized for five major awards including best feature, best supporting female for Nyong’o and best screenplay for Ridley. 12 Years a Slave has been recognized with the top feature honor at the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, the Producers Guild Awards, the Satellite Awards and the USC Scripter Award. 12 Years a Slave, set years before the Civil War, follows the story of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, who is kidnapped and sold into slavery in the South. One day after Jay Leno helped make a surprise season-two announcement, Arsenio Hall — with help from a look-a-like — announced that Prince would be the sole guest on Wednesday, March 5, for what’s billed as “a rare late-night appearance.” Prince, who recently guest-starred in New Girl‘s Super Bowl episode, will perform several songs and be interviewed by Hall, sharing his plans for the year. “The Arsenio Hall Show has always been so welcoming to us in the past and so we wanted to return that favor,” Hall says, reading off a letter written by Prince.
