June 17, 2013The Season two launch of TV Land’s comedy series THE SOUL MAN starring Cedric the Entertainer, Nicey Nash and Wesley Jonathan, debuts for its second season Wednesday, June 19th at 11 PM PST/ 10 CT. From the creators of Hot in Cleveland, THE SOUL MAN revolves around Cedric’s character, Reverend Boyce The Voice Ballentine, an R&B superstar-turned-minister who takes over as preacher of his father’s church. Niecy Nash (“Reno 911”) stars as the reverend’s wife, Lolli. The pilot also features John Beasley (Everwood) as his father, Wesley Jonathan (What I Like About You) as his younger brother, and Jazz Raycole (My Wife and Kids) as his daughter. The character of Reverend Boyce originated on a second season episode of Hot in Cleveland in which Cedric guest-starred. June 15, 2013Kanye West, Kim Kardashian The reality TV star gave birth at Cedars-Sinai in West Hollywood on Saturday. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed a new daughter on Saturday, a source confirms to The Hollywood Reporter. The couple checked in to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood where Kardashian gave birth to a baby girl with her boyfriend by her side. The reality TV star recently spoke about expecting a child on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “I’m so excited we’re having a girl. Who doesn’t want a girl? They are the best, and I know that’s really what Kanye has always wanted. He wanted a little girl,” she said. Kardashian was set to move back home with mom Kris Jenner prior to giving birth, THR reported in a cover story in the June 21 issue. West was asked about parenthood in an interview published this week in The New York Times. He responded: “One of the things was just to be protective, that I would do anything to protect my child or my child’s mother. June 8, 2013“The Haves and the Have Nots” Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey may be the perfect match — at least in terms of Winfrey’s cable network. OWN launched its first scripted effort Tuesday night, pulling in its highest rated series premiere yet. The Haves and the Have Nots, from the prolific writer, director and producer, brought in 1.77 million viewers with its 9 p.m. premiere. Part of a back-to-back premiere, the show managed to grow to 1.8 million viewers in its second episode at 10 p.m. The strongest premiere until now has been the recent debut of Life With La Toya (1.18 million). Among women 25-54, OWN’s ad-friendly demo, the 9 p.m. episode brought in a 1.57 rating and the 10 p.m. episode pulled a 1.67 rating. OWN and Perry inked an exclusive multiyear deal in October, which will see the multi-hyphenate develop new series and projects for the network. The pact included the addition of The Haves and the Have Nots to the network, as well as comedy Love Thy Neighbor — which opens Wednesday. He was discovered after receiving rave reviews for playing Tupac Shakur in the off-Broadway play “Up Against the Wind.” Immediately following, Anthony made an auspicious film debut as Eminem’s nemesis, Papa Doc, in Curtis Hanson’s “8 Mile.” His performance caught the attention of Spike Lee, who subsequently cast him in “Sucker Free City” and “She Hate Me.” He also appeared in Clint Eastwood’s “Million Dollar Baby” as well as in Jonathan Demme’s “The Manchurian Candidate.” Besides an impressive film career, the gap-toothed thespian has performed both on and off-Broadway. More recently, Anthony participated in the Kennedy Center’s presentation of “August Wilson’s 20th Century.” 2013 is proving very productive for Anthony, with the horror thriller “Vipaka,” the coming of age drama “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete,” the crime thriller “Runner, Runner” and “Bolden” being among his offerings. Here, he talks about his new movie, “Pain & Gain,” a fact-based crime comedy co-starring Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg. KW: So, what interested you in Pain & Gain? AM: It was the script.
