It’s interesting to me when I talk to folks who are in high school and in college and I ask, ‘What do you want to do?’ and they’ll say, ‘Oh, I’ll do all of it.’ And I explain to them, ‘You have to pick a door to walk into. July 11, 2014By SCOTT CACCIOLA July 11, 2014 LAS VEGAS — Four years after he bolted from Cleveland to Miami in pursuit of the N.B.A. championships that had eluded him, LeBron James is returning home. At age 29 and with two N.B.A. titles now in his possession, James announced on Friday he had decided to rejoin the Cavaliers, for whom he played in the first seven seasons of his storied professional career. Vilified in Cleveland when he decided to leave for the Heat, James is likely to find that all is forgiven, and more, as he embarks on an effort to bring a championship to a city that has not celebrated one in any major sport in 50 years. James, who grew up in nearby Akron, Ohio, and is widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of his generation, made the announcement through Sports Illustrated’s website, saying: “My relationship with northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn’t realize that four years ago. June 18, 2014San Antonio Dethrones Miami in a Brisk Five Games SAN ANTONIO—For the past two years, we’d grown accustomed to the idea that the Miami Heat could take its opponent’s best punch. The Heat had made a habit of falling behind in playoff series, only then to unleash a vicious counterattack from its star trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Not this time. Not even close. The San Antonio Spurs clinched the NBA title Sunday night, knocking off the two-time defending champions in dominant fashion, 104-87, to win the best-of-seven series in a brisk five games and perhaps even put the future of the world’s best player in doubt. For coach Gregg Popovich and his San Antonio club—now owners of the five of the league’s past 16 Larry O’Brien trophies—the victory represented a form of redemption. The Spurs lost the Finals in seven games to Miami last year, but had been mere seconds away from earning the title in Game 6. (So close, in fact, that NBA security officials began roping off the court to prepare for what figured to be a Spurs’ trophy presentation.) Then Miami’s Ray Allen, altering the course of history, hit a triple in the closing seconds to tie that unforgettable game, which helped the Heat force a Game 7 that it would go on to win. The odds were stacked heavily against the Heat heading into Sunday night, since no team has ever come back to win an NBA Finals series after falling behind 3-1. But Miami threw its best punch of the series to start the game, jumping out to a huge 22-6 lead midway through the first quarter. The model-producer has inked a deal to host and executive produce a new syndicated daily lifestyle show for Disney-ABC starting in 2015, the company announced Friday. The untitled show will feature Banks leading a team of lifestyle experts and covering a range of topics from fashion and beauty to home and entertainment as well as empowerment and individual enterprise. A stated goal is to help motivate viewers to improve and enhance their lives by providing cutting-edge guidance. The series will feature celebrity interviews, Internet influencers, experts and everyday people sharing a knowledge of topics key to the daytime audience. “Tyra is an enormous and vibrant talent with widespread appeal, and we’re eager to introduce her new lifestyle show that will incorporate her personal message of self-confidence to the syndication marketplace,” said Janice Marinelli, president of Disney-ABC Domestic Television. Banks will host and executive produce the series alongside Disney-ABC’s Summerdale Productions. The show will be broadcast form Los Angeles and distributed by Disney-ABC Domestic Television. “The fire to inspire women and help them to blaze new paths fiercely burns inside of me,” Banks said. “I’m excited to be partnering with Disney-ABC to usher in a new era of lifestyle, beauty and entertainment that will inspire women to be the CEO of their lives via honesty, humor and the newest tips and tricks without being intimidating or precious.
